Fuel Pump Quick Connects LEAK! HELP!!

My husband is out in the driveway. The whole neighborhood smells like gasoline. He replaced the fuel pump in the trunk on my son's 1996 850 Turbo. Everything seemed fine. The quick connect rubber things on the top of the fuel pump were hard to get off and then hard to get back on. (Of course we didn't have the "fork" tool and made one out of a bar-b-que skewer.) We got the car all put back together and then the moment of truth... It ran and sputtered and then we noticed gas everywhere in the driveway. I panicked, my husband quickly investigated. The gas is coming from the connections that go onto the silver tubes that stick out of the top of the fuel pump. Can we replace them? What are they called? What should we order? Do we have to get them at the Volvo garage? Has anyone else out there had to replace theirs, or is it just us? Any tips on how to replace them? PLEASE HELP!!! and thank you, thank you, thank you for ANY advice you can give!

I'm experiencing the same issue. Fuel pump failed @ 160,000. Not bad, however new pumps are ridiculous and aftermarket pumps have a tendency to suck. Grabbed one from a junk yard for $25

A HUGE discount. However, once I got it all buttoned up, I was spewing gas. Not a ton, but enough to get my hand on the ignition in about half a second. Local auto store has the typical "I know everything, except what that is" employees, so I rigged a repair line and a small section of vacuum line via hose clamps. No leaks, but really not that safe. I'm hoping to find a better solution, as locating a quick connect seems to prove difficult.

You can try a wrecking yard and hope someone hasn't already got all the hoses and fix it that way or try napa if you have one near you and just get some fuel line to make a quick fix like cj did. Mine is doing the same thing but it seems to only do it when i fill the tank past 12 gallons:\ also make sure that everything is snug in place as well sometimes the simple "i know snug/tightned that enough" can be the problem. If you do go to a wrecking yard see if you can get you a fuel pump relay switch while your there even if you dont need it 850's seem to have this thing about blowing those pretty easy. It's not hard to tell witch one is the fuel pump relay its the only red box in the fuse box

Your problem is that the O rings inside the quick connects, (in the elbow) have been damaged. I don't think they can be replaced. The dealer will sell you new ones, connected to the $50 elbow, and hose. I'd recommend getting the proper connections, and hoses. The quick fix will not allow your 850 to perform up to specs, and you risk problems with improper fuel delivery. I did the same on my son's 850, and ended up buying a hose. It was worth it to know that he would be safe driving the car.
