1998 S70 OBD-II RESET CODES-HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO RESET ?
My Saga continues........Volvo found a broken hose to the Evap valve and repaired it on Tuesday. They then reset all the codes to " Zero " I guess. I have been driving it 15 miles each way to work since ( 30 x 3 = 90 miles driven since repair ). Today is Sat. Aug 13. I brought the car to my mechanic this morning and about 5 codes have not reset yet !! Check engine light is on when key in and engine off and quickly extinguishes when engine is started and running - and light does not come on at any time when running so light functions properly. I called Volvo and they said it could take 1 - 1 1/2 weeks to reset all the codes !! Is this true or are they bull-----ing me ? Is there any way to reset them quicker ? I live in New York State and they have just enacted emissions pass/fail for inspection. Car passes safety test with flying colors. but now may not pass because codes may not reset in time. Have you heard of anything so rediculous ? Must be part of the ongoing " Drive New Yorkers out of New York Campaign " !! Any clarification or assistance or experiences with this would be appreciated, Thanks Very Much, Mickey

Keep driving your car - It will take a little bit for the codes to reset - usually about 300 miles of driving from what I gather. Don't keep unplugging your battery - because everytime you do that you reset the diagnostic cycle counter.
The DMV (or the equivalent emissions testing authority in NY state) will not clear your emissions test if the OBD II on the car has been recently reset. Otherwise it would be too easy to work around the system !

Thanks HTH for your reply !
300 Miles ? Wow, Thats alot of Driving. I also own a 1992 940 which my wife drives - tougher, more reliable, built stronger than the S70 in my opinion. I am looking for a good used 940 which is 1995 or older ( 1996 starts the NYS Emissions Bull----. ) I like the S70, but never agian want to go throught NYS Emissions. Mickey
