Keyless entry - all 850's?

Post by Smash2 »

I know this has been discussed before - I bought a used 850 and it did not come with remotes - confirm ALL 850's did come with keyless entry and I just need to buy a compatible remote and program it?

Is there a build sheet anywhere on the car that I can check the options? I heard there is a line for keyless entry if the car had it.

Thanks fellas.

FWIW, I've read more than once that all north american 850s were keyless entry.
Help keep MVS on the web -> click sponsors' links here on MVS when you buy from them.

Also -> Amazon link
. Click that when you go to buy something on Amazon and MVS gets a cut!

Not all 850's came with it. Mine did not. You have to have the little blinky red light on the forward dash to have keyless entry. I bought a key fob and everything expecting it to work and no dice. however, there are aftermarket kits you can get that will give you keyless entry. They aren't bad. I have one that also starts my car so that the car can warm up in winter or cool down in summer before i get it. It was only 50 dollars and worth every penny.
Good luck!

Yeah same unknown as last year when I was asking about this - I seem to remember another 'poster' saying that that LED was for temp sensing, nothing to do w/keyless entry.

I'll ask a Volvo buddy or call IPD I suppose. Yeah the prev owner was a real detail guy, I'm sure he would have included remotes if they did come with the car, so I'm leaning towards it not having K.E.

Hi egdeaile1,

What kind of keyless entry system do you have? My 850GLT did not come with keyless entry so I am thinking of buying a kit, but I dont know which one I should buy. Maybe it is best to order the original? I heard you only have to replays an relay and that you get two remotes included.

Not all 850s come with Remotes. If your 850 original did not come with remotes, then an available kit can be installed. Just contact your local dealer parts department. Now if you bought a used 850 and not quite sure the remotes were originally equiped or not, one quick way to check is look at the center of your dash by the windshield. If there is a little square pop-up splastic with LED light, then your 850 already had keyless entry installed.
