Broken 3-CD changer on SC-901 radio

Post by DerbyRam »

Can anyone help? 8 months ago I bought a 1999 V70 and I'm very happy with it. 5 months ago I bought an SC-901 radio plus amplifier and cabling from a breakers yard for 350 euros and I was delighted with that too. 3 months ago my 4-year-old son pulled out the 3-cd cartridge and broke the cd function - I wasn't best pleased.

Can anyone tell me roughly how much it would cost to get this fixed by Volvo? My other options are to try to buy another radio (I've found a second-hand SC-900 available without amp for 300 euros), or to connect a separate cd changer and fit it under the driver's seat for example.

Thanks,

DerbyRam,

Sorry to hear. I don't think Volvo offers repair on any deck. I can be wrong. Try ebay .. there are many Volvo Salvagers on Ebay. They might have a good used one. Otherwise get a new aftermarket deck for a fraction of the Volvo price. Plus, most of the aftermarket decks now days play mp3 file. You can have up to 100 songs or more on a CD with mp3 file. Therefore, you no need to have a changer installed.

Thanks for the reply Dave. I think eBay or similar is my best bet. Before I do anything though, I'll try to find someone with a 3-cd cartridge as I suppose there's a small chance it's the cartridge that's broken and not the mechanism - I doubt it though. My daughter saw my son break it, and according to her he had a white piece in his hand which he threw into the driver's footwell, but I couldn't find anything.
