Volvo 244 Fuel Pump

i was driving my 1980 244GL this morning and all of a sudden i hear something like a buzzing noise coming from the left rear of the car and then the car shut off - it was able to start up again but 30seconds later it shut off again... would the fuel pump just need replacing or could it just be the relays or something different?
