1991 940 se keeps blowing fuse to ignition coil

Post by Guest »

My 1991 940 keeps blowing the fuse that feeds the current to my ignition coil. Can anyone explain this or offer a way to fix this problem? It has happened twice to me in a 1 month. Once while i was driving and the other time while the car was parked. Both times the car would not start afterwards. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

One possible reason is that the insulation in the ignition coil is bad. You could disconnect the coil and messaue the resistance. If you have a Bosch system the primary value in the coil should be 0.6 - 0.8 ohm and secondary 6900 - 8500 ohm. If you have a Bendix ignition system the primary value should be 0.35 - 0.65 ohm and secondary 4000 - 6000 ohm. Probably the lower value will differ 10 - 20 % from this values, because an ordinary multimeter has very bad accuracy in values below 1 ohm. Anyway, I would probably change the ignition coil and see if it helps.
