High Beam Low Beam Switch Trouble

! I drive a 1990 240 wagon. My high beams work great. When I switch to low beams I have no head lights at all. I have replaced the bulbs with the nice new bight lights. I have replaced all my fuses and the light box in the engine. They still don't work. My husband thinks perhaps it is in the column switch mechanism itself. .I live in rural Alaska so going to the shop isnt an option...I will greatly appreciate any suggestions you have!
