There is a Volvo S70 GLT for sale, really cheap, less than 3000. Called local service tech told him what I saw wrong with it to get an idea what the possible repairs would be. The Abs , Check Engine & TRAC light is on. (said it could be the ABS module, $750/850). Engine misses slightly (said it could be the Electronic Throttle module ($600). Also found a waver from E-check in the glove box, said it did not pass the emisions test. Even with these problems, the body is solid and interior is good condition, black leather.
Has anyone had these problems? What did it take to repair? Would anyone buy a 1998 S70 with these problems? 145000 miles.??????
Help Help Help
Should I buy it???? Help Help Help 1998 S70

Timing belt's probably due:

1998s did not have electronic throttle. It probably needs a tune up of the regular suspects.
ABS computer fixes can be had for MUCH less:

Sounds like an excellent deal IMHO.

Mister Volvo93
Matt I have found great information on your website. I have purchased parts for my 93 850 GLT from some websites you and your readers have recomended. Using this knowledge base makes considering repairing a car seem more reasonable than not repairing it because of dealer high cost.
THANKS!!!!!!!
Also the 98 S70 had a rough start and had some condensation coming from the tail pipe, which stopped after the car warmed up. The car did not pass the emisions test either. Could this be a blown headgasket? If not then what would cause this.?????
THANKS!!!!!!!

If you haven't done the tune up yet, go to FCPGroton.com, they'll handle all your needs w/ almost everything you want and for low prices too!
I'd say before the suspecting a blown head gasket, do a complete tune up:
Front O2 sensor (please avoid the universal ones, go OEM from FCPGroton).
Rotor, Cap, Wires.
Spark Plugs (torque it to manufacturer spec)
Vacuum lines (very simple to do on a Volvo)
Air Filter and Cabin Air filter (the cabin air filter is located under the hood near the passenger firewall, under the paneling where the wipers are).
Clean throttle body.
And lastly a good oil change and filter.

I'd be suspect of such a car of that age for such a low price. Do a compression test; that should give you an idea of whether or not the head gasket it toast.
