My check engine light came on a few days ago.
I live in Sacramento, CA. Does anyone know of a good mechanic in the area? Do I need to get a diagnostic test? How much do they range in price? What's the common cause of a check engine light coming on? If it's the oxygen sensor, is that easy to replace (i'm a self fixer)?
Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

i would go to auto zone and get them to pull the codes, then post them. if its an oxygen sensor code DO NOT change it immediately. post the code numbers and check the responses....

Sounds like a vacuum leak. Check your vacuum lines and elbows.

I'm sorry, but I'm having a similar problem but am not a do-it-your-selfer. I definitely want to learn if possible. If you happen to have a schematic of the vacuum lines and elbows, that would be great. Thanks!!!

Sorry, no schematic. Vacuum lines are white in my 850.
Gas cap is a usual suspect, absolutely.

I haven't had the time to check my vacuum lines, but I went into Auto Zone to borrow a DBII to reset my service light. I erased 1 the only code it found, and my check engine light went away. I've only started the car a couple of times since, but could the check engine light really be a error in itself? Or a faulty electrical problem?
Thanks for all the responses.

Could it be an electrical glitch? Sure.
I haven't heard of this happening often/at all, so I would guess it's a real fault (or was) in the emissions system.

Hi Guys
My CE light just came on after I got gas, how can the gas cap effect the CE light, or do you think a vacuum leak? THANK YOU IN ADVANCE
