volvo 850 transmission

I have a 93 Volvo 850. The other day I was driving it home and it started revving high and would barely move. Soon after that the economy/sport light started blinking along with the winter light. The car will sometimes totally give out and not kick in in reverse or any of the forward gears. It also lost 4th gear and the blower for the heater and A/C went out on the way to work. After work the blower came on and it went to 4th. Does anyone know what is wrong and how to fix it.

It Also ran with just a header for a week back and forth two work, which is about 4 miles a day. Would this have anything to do with it, because I had to rev it to keep it from stalling out when it was stopped.

How many miles on the car?With the engine running check the transmission fluid level. Wipe dip stick on white cloth and check color and smell . If anything other color than red and smells burnt, not showing on the dip stick change the fluid. May help.

The car has 185000 miles on it, I've had it since 183000. I checked the tranny fluid and everything and it was all good. I read something about solenoids in the transmission that might be the problem though.
