Will replaced ETM part fail?

Post by pep »

I recently had my ETM replaced while on a road trip to LA and TX. The dealer in Houston assured me the replaced part has been retooled and will not fail. Does anyone have experience with the ETM replacement part number 8644347? Do you know when these were introduced to the market? If you have one that failed, at what milage after replacement? Were there warning signs before the unit failed. I have put 2,000 miles on my car since the replacement. I know from the NHTSA investigation that replacement parts have failed. I feel like I have a ticking time bomb under my hood. I can't afford to replace the car immediately but will before this warrently expires on the replacement part if Volvo does not make things right.
Thanks for your help in advance.

Yes the 8644347 are reported to be failing starting at 11,000 miles.
See http://www.volvoxc.com/forums/showpost. ... ostcount=1 to see how they are built.
There is also a poll on VolvoXC to report failure intervals.
