crackling radio volume switch

I have just purchased a 1994 850 t5 with 59000 on the clock, great car in great condition, however I have a problem with the radio's volume on off knob. I think the switch is dirty inside as when you turn the volume up or down it crackles and intermittently kills the right hand speakers. Ifeel that it simply needs some cleaning with a good electronics spray however I think i'll need to remove the system from the dash, can anyone help me with this process or does anyone have any suggestions, it would be most appreciated, thanks!
