transmission problem

Post by jonathank »

brought my 2000 c70 in for yearly inspection (in nyc) to a local mechanic shop. they hooked it up to the diagnostic computer and it passed no problem. as i was leaving, all of a sudden, the car seemed to have a transmission problem. i would step on the gas and it just wouldn't go or should i say it went extremely slow as if i had the clutch in on a manual shift (mine is automatic). putting it in 2nd or 3rd gear was not much better. say 0-60 in 25 seconds not kidding. the place claimed they had no idea what was wrong "that they hadn't done anything" and that it must be a lingering transmission problem that "coincidently" just happened! ever heard of this happening?? could the inspection's computer done this...or thrown off the cars computer for the transmission? thanks for your help.

I've got a 1994 850 Automatic. I don't know if this is in your car, but in mine, there is a Winter/Econ/Sport setting next to the shifter, when I press the winter button, this starts the car in 2nd gear so as to have minimal wheel spin in the snow. Your transmission might be stuck on that setting without you knowing. Usually there is an upwards pointing arrow on the bottom right of the dash if it is on. I would take it to the dealership.

I have a 2000 S70 and this problem has just continued for me. My car was in a shop for months and they didn't know what the problem was and concluded that I needed a new transmission. Thats close to $4000 and my car already has 104,000 miles on it. I am probably gonna get it done. It clunks on the down shift at times, on the upshift at times, and yes I know all about 0 - 60 in 25 seconds!! Sometimes its like the car is in nuetral and then it violently jerks into gear. I'm in bad shape.

I went to Big Dees volvo in White Plains , DON"T GO THERE!!!!!!!!
They told me on 3 different times they fixed my car, didn't fix it and tried to charge me $1000 for changing something that didn't fix what I brought it for.

I know all too much about this problem, and will be getting this fixed at some point, exactl when I am not sure.
