98 S70 Won't Start; Died While Driving

Post by Guest »

My 1998 S70, with 106,000 miles, stalled out on me tonight. We were gone for several days and the car stayed in the driveway. When we got back, I tried to start it, and it took three good turns of the key to get it going. This happened a few more times over the last week. Tonight, it started fine, but died will driving. It then did the same thing I've described, only now it refuses to start at all.

It is not making the noise that would indicate its a battery problem. It sounds like it's just not getting fuel. Could this be a simple fuel filter problem? Or something much worse? Again, it acts like it wants to ignite and start up, but it won't.

Thoughts?

Mileage seems a bit low for the fuel pump. Have someone turn the key into position two while you stand at the rear of the car listening for the whining sound of the fuel pump coming on. If not, two culprits are the fuel pump relay or the fuel pump. Let us know what you find with that and we'll narrow things down from there.
