What if remote battery dies

What if remote battery dies

The car can only be started if the door is opened by the remote. So how can I avoid the risk of being stuck when the remote batteries wear out. I don't think it would be practical to carry a spare battery because they lose power over time, even when not being used.

My 850 can be started without remote unlocking. In fact, I rarely remote unlock the car because the remote is going bad. (New batteries have no effect.)

Volvo's made some bad as well as good decisions on their cars lately, but I'd be hard-pressed to imagine they'd do something as silly as require remote unlocking to start it.
