850GLT Sunroof retracted midway won't close

Volvo 850GLT w/ 190+K miles, recently gave to my daughter. This would
never have happened if I still had this...right?? Sunroof is partially
retracted. Cannot get unit completely closed or open. When switch is
activated, unit will open or close an inch or two at a time. When the
unit reaches certain points it will reverse. Help....quoted $1500.00 to
repair.....just want to get this closed for use.
