Oil Change

Is anyone bothered by the fact that Volvo recommends oil changes at 7500 mile intervals using "regular" oil? I have an 04 XC90 with 22,000 miles and it concerns me that the oil degrades with such high mileage changes, as well as, the oil level dropping. Also, I like to perform my own maintenance and am wondering if anyone has chnaged their own oil yet. If so, how'd you get through the "undercarriage" barrier to the filter. Thanks.

You can go the 7500 miles if you use synthetic oil. If you are using mineral base, every 3-4000 miles.
