V70 bonnet catch

I have a V70 Volvo and the bonnet release mechanism will only release on one side ie the offside. The nearside is firmly locked. It could be that the release wire has been disconnected when I was replacing a headlight lamp.

Have you got any ideas of how to solve this problem?

I have the same issue with my 96 850. I used a thin film of grease on the latch mechanism to see where the latch was hitting. (I did this to both sides). The drivers side would always release correctly. The other would release about 1/3 of the time. The striker was hitting a little off on the passenger side. There are two 13 mm bolts on the side facing the front of the car that hold the latching mechanism to the mounting bracket - these also are the adjustment points for latteral movement. Once you have determined which direction the latch needs to move lossen the bolts and make your adjustment. Tighten your bolts making sure the latch does not move - it will have a tendancy to move to the right. Clean the grease off the strike mechanism and the latching bar and re-grease the latch. Gentlry lower the hood to engage the fist click on the latch. YOU DO NOT WANT TO FULLY CLOSE YOUR HOOD. You are checking to ensure that the adjustment was performed correctly and to re-verify that you have the latch propperly located. If the strike position is correct confirm that the bolts are tight and lube the mechanisms and try out a full closure of the hood.

Be aware if you have not adjusted it correctly it may hang worse and it will be next to impossible to get open.
