tach on an 850R

My tachometer on my 96 850R has been acting strangely as of late. There doesn't seem to be a pattern to it but sometimes the tach will bounce up and down without rythm or just not work at all. Usually it will work for the first few minutes of driving and then die. But sometimes it will work all day. Went on a 50+ mile mountain road romp the other day and had no problems with the tach. Started it up the next day and it went back to it's old tricks. Loose wire?

Either a wire is loose, or your tach is about to die.
