Volvo 740 GLE - ralls back to 2nd gear from the 3d

My old Volvo 1985 has a problem with gear switching controller .. whenever I decelerate at ~ 40 ml/h and 2krpm it suddenly jums to the 2nd gear from the 3d and stays there ..sometims it jumps back to the 3d, continues normal deceleration and then shifts to 2nd gear at lower speed. Now it also does this at higher speeds or simply sticks to the 2nd gear and stas there even at 60 ml/h ...the rpms go very high ..like 4500 ...anybody can help ?

Wrongly adjusted kick down wire can cause a lot of problems. The kickdown wire has a little brassring assembled on it (to make it easier to adjust). If you messaure the distance from this ring to the end of the wirecover, it should be adjusted to 0.25 - 1.0 mm with no gas. At full gas, pedal maximum down, the same distance should be 50.4 - 52.6 mm.
