1999 V70 GLT finky engine light

Post by dsnider »

We purchased our first Volvo almost 2 years ago. Several months ago the check engine light came on. I check the fuel cap and it was tight. I always "click" it a few times whenever I add fuel. It went on and off by itself for a couple of months, then I took it to the dealer. They replaced a sensor. The light was off for a few weeks and then came back on. Sometimes it will go off but then come back on. Same problem pattern as before.

I replaced the fuel cap, but it has not had any effect on the problem.

I have noticed that the sound from the gas tank is different than other vehicles I have driven. With my Volvo there is NO sound of gas/air escaping from the tank when I remove the cap. I have always heard gas escaping on other vehicles due to the tank being pressurized.
Is no sound normal for the Volvo??

I hope someone can help me with this problem.

Look thru your service records or call the dealer and get the codes that were tripping the light. There's something like 10 or 20 different problems that can light that thing, and each has a code associated with it. Post that code or description here and we can help you better.

You're right in that a lose gas cap can cause this light. Sounds like you're on top of that and it's something else.
