850 glt won't start help!!
I have a 95 850 GLT, just the other day I drove to work parked up, returned to the car a while later and the car would not start. I have since changed the spark plugs, distrubutor cap, rotor arm, plug leads and the Coil and I still have had no joy!! Has anyone had the same kind of problems with the 850? what was the fix?

I have had simular problems with my 93 850 glt. I find that when my fuel level gets too low the car will not start.Even when topped up it requires extended cranking, often longer than my battery will allow to start. The car runs rough as hell for about 45 to 90 seconds then all is well. It also seems to coinside with allowing my wife to drive my car. I have never had an issue with my 850, My wife has wracked up about $ 3 000.00 worth. Does your wife drive your car? Volvo's are quite sensitive that way you know....

Did you ever find the problem?? My 850 is doing the same thing, I just replaced the starter and everything was fine for 3 weeks and then it is just dead, the battery is fine and so is the alternator. What was the problem??850glt wrote:I have a 95 850 GLT, just the other day I drove to work parked up, returned to the car a while later and the car would not start. try this....
i had the same problem. remove the cover over the fuse box. there are 4 screws that hold that cover . this is different from just the 'fuse box'. there are 3 "J" relays. i suggest you remove and clean those thing then put them back in. it should start. if that does not work, then assuming the starter and battery are fine, then it is the pnp switch. $100 part. about 2 hours to install. my guess is the 'j' s are just dirty. confidence inspiring isn't it?

I have the same problem with mine. 95, 850, 45,000 miles. Starts when it wants to. Battery was replaced a year ago and so was the key start switch. I'll have to try the fuse box cleaning "J's" thing.
Thanks!
Alex.

I have the same problem with my 94 850 turbo. I replaced the fuel pump relay, and the problem continues. A tech at the dealer said change the pump. He told me he changes more pumps on 850s than he does fuel pump relays. You can buy pumps, and most parts cheap at azautohaus.com.

Has anyone check this sensor that is next to the rotor. I don't know what's the name of it. It is made by BOSCH and it is black and round in shape. If is fails, it would not send valve related signals to the computer. Our '95 850 GLT had this problem and we had it replaced. It's ok now.

Has anyone found any additional fixes to try for this problem. My '93 still won't start.
I have simmilar problem in my 97 850GLT. I couldn't start because of too much gasoline pumping. When engine was warm it worked no regular on neutral and after several seconds stop.
Computer shown MassAir sensor problem.
Firstly I replaced Mass Air Sensor (on the left from Air Filter), but it doesn't help. Finaly I have asked my friend (electronic engeneer) from VOLVO service. He checked and find out that the reason was engine temperature sensor, which shows always -18 C degree to Computer - in fact was ~90 C degree. In effect Engin gets to much gasoline.
I replace it and now is everything OK.
