v50 2005 driver's seat removal for airbag insertion?

Post by Olivia »

my v50 was in a crash, and the driver's side airbag blew. i need to replace it, but can't manage to figure out how to remove the seat cover to get to where to insert the airbag.

does anyone know how to do this?

thanks.

I just looked this up in VADIS for your car. Apparently the airbag in your steering wheel cannot be replaced in your model year. If it has deployed, the entire steering column must be replaced....sorry. You might try www.erievovo.com (call them, they don't hardly answer email) to see if they have your car's steering column and steering wheel with airbag still intact. They are a huge Volvo junked car place and they may have one or know where you can find a good used one. I suspect that even if they have it, it won't be cheap...$400-500??

Oops...sorry, I re-read your post and you're talking about the SIPS system in the seat. I'll still leave the above in place in case someone needs this information in the future. Here, go here: http://www.filefactory.com/file/b6d960/
Once you are there, click on "Download for free with FileFactory Basic"
then, enter the code supplied and then hit "continue." This will begin downloading a PDF file that I uploaded concerning your issue.
Let us know how it goes. You are wise to try to do this yourself. The dealer would certainly take you for all they could get.

thanks for your reply.

i'm not talking about the steering wheel airbag.

i'm talking about the airbag that's in the left hand side of the driver's seat.

it's been deployed, and i need to replace it. i just don't know how to take apart the actual driver's seat to get to the airbag inorder to insert the new one.

The tool #115 8962 is simply crimping pliers. Hope the above post was helpful. I have VADIS opened to your car so if you need anything else on your car, PM me or email me.

Okay...let us know how it goes...once you get it installed, you may need a software download, or at least a trip to the dealer to reset the SRS light that's probably lit up on your dash.
