Can anyone help?

I have a 98 V70R AWD and it's very sick. It started to cut-out from time to time and stutter when driving hard. Then one morning she said enough is enough and choked me in black smoke and failed to start. As the main family car I had her picked up and taken to a garage. After 4 days they are now telling me it's 'low fuel presure' and the fuel pump needs replacing. (Note: this is not a Volvo Garage but they do call themselves Volvo Specialists). Then the really bad news, they want

Well, pleny of people read the thread but no one could help. In a way you all did, thanks to the threads on similar problems. I expressed my concerns to the garage and they investigated the Fuel Presure Regulator and Relay. I can hear you all shouting...it was the regulator, and it was.

I still think building a comparison list is a good idea.
