1999 S80 T6

I am presently looking at a 99 S80 T6 from a local dealership. I also never owned a Volvo before and have heard mixed emotions about the Volvo in general. The people I know personally who owned them love them and the complaints are form Consumer Reports and Edmunds. With that said, I did read horror stories about the ’99 S80 T6. I don’t know anyone who has owned the S80 and would love to hear from people who own/owned them. The local Volvo dealership is reputable and they showed the maintenance records for the vehicle (all completed). They also admitted it did have the transmission replaced along with some recalls and the software needed to be upgraded. Over the past two years it has no ‘significant’ issues and the car comes with a 6 month warranty. I brought the car to a local mechanic who gave the car his blessing.

I guess what I am asking is the 99 a really bad year or are there just more than normal lemons since it is a first year model? If the car seems to have a relatively trouble free history should it still be avoided? Are there people out there with this model/year having great success or is everyone having lots of problems? I have also noted that there is a relatively low postings for S80's in general. Is this model disliked by Volvo enthusiasts?

My dad's '99 is fine, but I've read about some bad ones, and he drives like a grandmother. What percentage are bad? That's anybody's guess.

If you're feeling a bit put off by buying a '99 S80, don't buy it. I trust my instinct when it comes to that sort of thing.

Hi,

if the specialists blessed it then buy it. All problems can be fixed. It is a good comfortable car. You will spend more on maintainace of such kind of car, but it is a high class. High class girls also costs more.
