1984 240 DL, The wipers have stopped working but I can hear the motor turning. The wipers move freely and independently of each other, like they are disconnected. Does anyone know how to get to the wiper arms?

240 Windshield wipers not working
The wiper arms connect to motor on the passenger side behind the glovebox. Under the glovebox there's a large cardboard guard plate (I don't know what it's actually called) that's held on by a number of large black plastic grommets. Remove the grommets by turning them 90 degrees, remove the plate, and squeeze yourself into the passenger side so that you can see up above and behind the glovebox to where the motor is mounted.
The main wiper arm attaches to the motor shaft with a little metal clip and the arm is keyed so that it will connect in the correct orientation. It's possible that the clip has broken or disconnected somehow and the main wiper arm is no longer attached to the shaft.
If the main arm is not connected, cycle the wiper motor once to ensure that the shaft is in the correct position, get a clip, and clip the main arm back on. You will probably have to finagle with it a bit to get it into the correct orientation.
