odometer doesn't work
my 93 850's odometer stopped working, but the speedometer still does. Anyone else have this problem and know how to fix it? Please let me know...thank you.

I had this on my '94. replaced it myself, bought a odometer from volvo of houston, used to be nils sefleldt volvo. approx $160, they sell at cost over the phone, with a small shipping charge, ups. look at vovlo speed .com, bay 13 , for the instrument cluster/ dashboard removal, after that you can figure out how to get the odometer out, took about 1-2 hours.

Odometer went out on my 95-850. Volvo shop wanted $400 and another shop wanted $250 to repair. Called speedometer repair shop and They would replace gear for $125 if I brought instrument cluster in to them. Removed top of dash and removed instrument cluster. [Got book from library on how to remove dash.] Upon putting everything back together my SRS [supplement Restrain System] warn light stays on. It costs $40 at shop to get this turned off.

I went online to a website started by a guy who was annoyed by the high cost being charged to fix this small problem. He started making the gears himself and sells them for $25. I bought one and replaced the odometer gear myself. It was a heck of a lot cheaper than taking the instrument cluster into the repair shop which will usually charge around $150 to fix the same thing I fixed for $25. The guy's name is Jeff Caplan and his website is www.odometergears.com. My car is a 1997 volvo 850.

I have the same problem. I replaced the broken gear and thought it was all fixed. Not so; speedo still fine but still no odometer. Does anyone know if the little odometer drive motors on the side of the odometer are a common failure or if there is a separate fuse for this motor?
I ordered both speedometer gears from FCP before pulling the cluster. When I got in there found that only one gear was broken, but replaced both.
This is the "How To" I followed, very good

I wanted to replace all of the indicator lamps while I was in there, but couldn't find a part number for them
Anyone know what it is?

The back light lights behind cluster are available at any auto parts store - they used to be W3W lights but they got a new number. Even the auto parts stores have them and in the fine print they will still say W3W. Match the wedge base and see that it is a 3 Watt lamp.
As far as the idiot lights go I buy mine in the 10 packs from these guys:
