S80 T6 Idle issue

Everything on the Volvo S80. Sometimes called an "executive car", the S80 was Volvo's top-of-the-line passenger car. P2 platform.

S80 T6 Idle issue

Post by looking to buy »

I am looking at a 1999 S80 T6 with 80k miles. The only problem with the car is that it has an erratic idle. The car stumbles when it is cold out. You will start it up and hear the engine almost die and then pick back up. When it does this the headlights dim and then get brighter with it pick back up.

The car is throwing a code of P0121 and the TPS and battery have just been replaced.

The guy is asking $9400 if we buy it with the current problem. We believe this is a good deal; however we want to know some ideas of what the problem is so we can know how much to expect.

I have a 2000 s80 with 75,000 miles. I would not recommend this car to my worst enemy. It has been nothing but trouble. This car is so unreliable, it just had a second electronic throttle module and abs module in 14 months ($1500 X2). I had a MAF sensor installed for $500. It is in the shop or sitting in the driveway more than we drive it. And now the transmission service is in the message center (more $$$). I read all the information/opinions/warnings/reviews before purchasing the car and hoped that I would have different/better luck with mine, not the case. Don't be suckered by its good looks (that's what got me). Now I wish I had purhased a used Honda. Thanks for letting me vent.

If we were to buy another car it would not be a S80 Volvo, or any other Volvo. We have now after owning our car for a little more then a year, have offically put more money into the car then we paid for it. Like the previous person mentioned don't but it!! Our car is with the mechanic more then with us. It is currently getting a re-built Tran. for $2500.00 (no warrinty), that would have cost $4,000,still not a guaranty. I have been searching for a re-call on the tran. problem, have not yet found one, any idea's, anybody??
