Volvo 850 Fan only works on High

Post by Dan »

I've got a fan in an 850 station wagon that will only run at the top setting (4), otherwise it doesn't blow at all (settings 1-3). I checked the manual, and sure enough 1-3 are on a different circuit than setting 4, but the fuses were not blown out. I replaced anyways, but no luck.

Any other ideas why it would do that? I'm hoping theres a do-it-yourself solution.

Thanks in advance

If you have the time and the patience, I would suggest that you check that the switch is closing the circuit in the other positions. You can use a cheapo multi-meter and even a battery with two wires and a light bulb to check the switch once you remove it. I have noticed that a lot of switches used in most European cars are very delicate and they fry or break easily, specially those that are used very frequently.

Do not know if it is the same on your 93, but I had the exact problem on
my 96 850. I had to replace the blower motor resister
