stalling

I got an 1994 850 Volvo for my wife to drive back and forth to work. It worked fine for a few days then one morning after about a half a mile the accelarator wouldn't pick up. It churned up and down and I just made it back before it konked out. After that it wouldn't start. It stood in cold weather for several days, tried to start it but the battery seemed to discharge more and more. I got a new battery and it started up fast. I drove it for about 10 minutes and it stalled at a traffic light. After about 20 minutes it started again. It coughed and sputtered a lot. I had it towed. The garage ran a computer diagnostic test and could not find a thing wrong. I am not that familiar with this car and don't know much about codes etc,. Also not dash board check engine lights came on. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks

#1 Find out what the codes are.
If the grage you had it towed to couldn't find the codes, what and how did they try?
could be a number of things, the check engine light comes on when a code is set in the ECU. This will get you started as to where to start looking.
