95 850 10v MANIFOLD SWOP - IRRITATING ENGINE TICKING NOISE

Post by David77 »

Guys,

I've recently replaced the manifold and CAT on my 1995 2.5l 10v 850 with pre-owned Volvo parts as the originals had blown and I've been trying to keep costs down.

The removal and refitting went well enough (new gaskets etc) and the car drives fine but I'm left with a ticking noise coming from directly in front of the driver's side (RHD UK Car) which increases with acceleration to unbearable levels. My lovely 850 now sounds like a lawnmower and is annoying the hell out of myself, the girlfriend and the neighbours.

I'm thinking of looking at the vacuum hoses next, but would appreciate any experiences or advice as I'm something of a novice, but don't want to give up on the car without a fight. Am also aware that it may be the parts...

Many thanks

David

Look for a leak at the manifold to engine connection. If there is a leak at one of the ports that cylinder will sound off each combustion cycle and increase with RPMs.
