"Check Engine" Light... MAP Sensor?

Hi all you volvo lovers-owners! I have a little problem that I hope someone may be able to help me with. I just took a short trip from Orange, CA to Burbank to a convention. On the way there the car worked fine, but alas on the way home, the "check Engine" light came on. Now understanding how these silly things work, and without checking using an OBD II scanner, I am suspicious of the MAP sensor since I went from sea level to a higher altitide then down again... What do you guys think? I wish I had more info to go by, but all I would like to know is if a sudden change of altitude on a dormant sensor would cause it to fail and bring up a code. Another Q I have is: After one changes a bad sensor that turns on the "check engine" light (assuming that nothing else is bad), will the light go off or do I need to reset it with the OBD II tool?

before putting forward any suggestions, what is your car model and year?
Turbo or non turbo?
MAF sensor failures are usually quite noticeable. Your car will misfire, a code will be set (121), will be difficult to start and will not idle properly.
Also usually rotten egg smell out of exhaust.

he said MAP (manifold absolue pressure) not MAS air. If it is something "stupid" like the difference in barometric pressure then in a given number of key cycles if the computer (1996 and up or OBD II) does not detect the fault again it will reset itself.

How is the car running?

I have a 2000 XCV70; I drove it from Denver to Montana and when I got to the city driving the Check Engine Light came on. I had the code read and it said Cat. Converter. Well, I hated to spend $1200 on it because the lights goes on and off. I believe between some cheap gas that I inadvertently put in it and the altitude change the light comes on. I have put some GOOD gas in it and haven't had the light come on lately. Does the car become adjusted to the altitude??? Just thought you might like to know my scenerio. Good luck, I just love my VOLVO!!! Wouldn't drive anything else.
