You will have to explain a little more what you are looking for.
Are you talking about wheel rims and tire? And what are you meaning by placing them?

We want to help but need some more information.

It depends of type of engine and model. Most common for Volvos in Scandinavia is that the alternator is placed at the right side of the engine, exhaust side. The two belts most close to the engine should then run totally in parallell in some sort of triangle, between the crankshaft wheel, the fan and the alternator. The belt most forward runs between the crankshaft wheel and the power steering pump. If you have AC, the most forward belt could be running to the AC compressor and from that one you have one more belt going between the compressor and power steering. This is the solutions I have seen. If this does not help, come back with more facts about your Volvo, type, engine, year, AC.......

Yes, it is the generator. Alternator is the American word for an AC-generator. Most forward is closest to the bumber. If you have the instruction book for the car, you will find information about belts in the pages about the engine -room, rather close to the end of the book.
In my book from 1986 I have 2 alternatives for a non turbo 2.3GLE with AC.
Alterantive 1:
First and second belt to the crankshaft, fan and alternator
Third belt to to AC, most forward slot.
Forth belt from back slot of AC up to power steering pump

Alternative 2:
First belt to crankshaft, fan and alternator
Second belt from crankshaft to AC
Third belt to from crankshaft to power steering.

It is also a small possibility that your car did not have AC from origin. It has exist some aftermarket kits for Volvo, I know one manufactured in Israel. Then the most forward belt is going between crankshaft, power steering and AC

Sounds odd. This wheel with 3 places for the belt is actually two units, one center and the outer wheel for the belts. Between it is vulcaniced rubber. If that rubber is soft????. Ok, if you look at the center of this wheel, the outer ring is normally 6 mm more forward than the center.
