electronic throttle control

Hi

I have heard about electronic throttle control problems with 99-00 V70 models. Is it a common issue ? Is it a device that wears out with time ? Does it fail suudenly and how ? Can you anticipate the problem ?

Actually, the throttle you are talking about was used up until 2002. It can fail at any moment, but usually there will be a surge from the engine at idle and the check engine light will come on. It's not cheap to replace either. If you live in California or Massachusetts, it's covered under warranty until 70,000 miles.
