service light on 99 s80

ok i tried holding the odom till the service light flashes but it never did what am i doing wrong do i need to have the car started first hold it in first or just in III i dont know also i guess i have to take the car to the dealer to get the door aligned i took off the panel and unlike many cars it doesnt go straight into the window theres a big metal wall in the way
