Throttle sticking wide open

HI there. I have a 2000 volvo v40 and recently almost thought I was going to die when the throttle on my V40 got stuck wide open. I went to pass a slew of cars and when I did I floored it and the car took off. Well, as soon as I past everyone, I let my foot off the accelerator only to realize that the pedal was on the floor. I had to fiddle with it with my foot to get i undone and at 120 it came undone. That was before I got a speeding ticket from some dumbass NC state trooper for doing 113 in 65. I told him what happened and of course this jerk didnt beleive me and didnt care. He just wanted to write me a ticket and go about his quota. Wouldve been funny if I wrapped my car around a frickin tree?! Anyways, please help!!! Volvo cant reproduce the problem and I have to go to court over this bullcrap. Thanks...

i too have had this problem several times before on my 2000 V40.

in the end i found that the floor mats were creeping forward and causing the throttle to get stuck down on them. only by kicking the throttle a couple of times was i able to disengage the throttle from max revs.

I had the same problem on a 2002 V40 - The floor mats slide forward and get stuck under the pedal.

It had frightened me a few times.

Roger, you dont have much luck with this car,
