Leaking Power steering fluid

Post by mac »

I have this feeling I'm not going to like what you say here :(.

I have fluid comming out if the power steering rack where the gaitor is on the drivers side.

Is there an easy fix for this or is this new rack time & loads of money.

I had a look under the rubber gaitor at the rack where the steering rod goes in & steering fluid is leaking out where the rod goes in. Please tell me you can get a simple gasket to stop the leak, please.

Thanks

Mac,

I had the same problem and I could not find and repair/gasket kits to fix it. There might be something out there you can buy to repair it yourself since they sell remanufactured steering racks. I just bought one earlier this week for $205.00 with a $150.00 core charge. I will be replaceing it as soon as it comes in.

Its really easy for me to get in an out because I have the motor and trans out right now.

I too have a leaky rack, I found one used for $40 but have not yet decided to replace. I unfortunatly filled it with powersteering fluid then realized it takes ATF fluid so I will probably flush the system before i replace

I had a small leak coming from my steering rack (1 drop/day). I used this stuff called Power Steering Stopleak in a yellow bottle and while it still leaks a tiny bit, it's more like 1 drop/week now. Might want to give that a try.
