fan smoking in '95 850 GLT

Help! I am having trouble with my 850 Wagon. There is smoke coming from the backside of the fan. I have checked oil and coolant to see if they are leaking onto it (although this seems unlikely considering the fan is at the very front where the hood opens) and nothing seems to be wrong with either fluid. I am really confused. Any advice?

What color is the smoke? Have you checked your power steering fluid level? Does it smell chemical or electrical?
