1998 V70/XC70 - considering purchase....pls help

I am considering purchasing a 1998 XC 70 with 148,000 miles.....for $6000 (offer price). From my investigations it appears that there are quite a bit of problems with these models.....any opinions/recommendations would be helpful.

Take a look at Consumer Reports Auto Buying Guide. They list models back to '98. Lot of black marks on the XC reliability.
