make sure trunk and door locks work manually.
Ay, there's the rub. No way to get in the (locked) tailgate without the battery and no (easy) way to connect the battery without opening the tailgate...

Measure the battery voltage after shutdown and 30 seconds of headlights on
I turn the key to position 1 and wait about 30 seconds, until the reading stabilizes. After a long trip it usually settles down around 12.6 and after a short trip more like 12.4.

Re: 2011 XC90 - My car eats batteries for lunch...

I have been doing something similar, when I remember. The battery is always showing a good charge state when I shut it down, 12.6 volts or so, and generally shows about 12.3 the next morning. 12.3 indicates significantly under charged, and even if it is not accurate, a drop of 0.3 volts seems signif...

Re: 2011 XC90 - My car eats batteries for lunch...

I do not have access to a recording ammeter. I guess I figure it will only (at best) tell me what I already know; something is waking up in the middle of the night and draining the battery. One thing I've though of that might help is if I could pull one or more fuses of "usual suspects" to see if it...

Re: 2011 XC90 - My car eats batteries for lunch...

I have VIDA/DICE, or whatever it's called. although I'm not very proficient at using it. Don't know how I can keep it running all night, though, in a locked car, and won't having something on the OBD port all night keep everything from sleeping?

I think what I really need is a network sniffer...

Re: 2011 XC90 - My car eats batteries for lunch...

I guess I would hook up a logging ammeter and monitor it. Yeah, I wish I had one. Of course, it would have to run all night on its own batteries... ;) 50 mA draw won't kill a good battery, even in the frigids. Yeah, I know. That's what's so puzzling; it would have to be a pretty significant draw to...

Re: 2011 XC90 - My car eats batteries for lunch...

Thanks. My trips are not all short trips. I've been driving for over 50 years and never had this problem before. I only noted the charge time to illustrate the state of charge of the battery after the dead/jump/drive for 10 miles/charge cycle. I don't expect to ever have to charge the battery betwee...

2011 XC90 - My car eats batteries for lunch...

This car is going to drive me to the loony bin! It's currently on its 4th battery in 8 years. It sat for 2 days in zero degree weather, started (reluctantly) on the third day for several reasonably short trips, started fine for each of the trips other than the first, then failed to start on day 4. I...
