Now a question for the forum. I intended to replace the crankshaft seal, but when pulled the flex plate today, I found that the factory seal is not leaking a drop of oil, and also seems to have a ring of felt material bonded to it that the replacement seal doesn't have.

I remember it took me a while to get the fluid level just right due to the fact you have to have it at the specific conditions first, putting some in, going over, sucking some out with a long pipe and syringe.

Wow this thread took off! I've never seen a 2nd clutch so toasted.

How were the input clutch and 3rd clutch? Also check the splines on the 4th clutch hub, they are known to strip and you lose 4th.

Replaced my old worn out factory Sachs with a combination of what was cheap on Rockauto at the time. FCS struts ($55AUD ea) on the front and KYB Just-A-Just shocks ($75 AUD ea) on the back.

One of the front Sachs had absolutely nothing left in it after 200,000km, and the other wasn't too far behind ...

Sorry to say but yea it's going to be the forward apply band, was there a bang or a clang at any point? The bands break in the middle where the forward apply solenoid presses the band to engage it.

How did you check the codes? If you have DICE you can run the throttle body test.

Aftermarket code readers can be misleading at times, especially since you have the reliable throttle body type.

Have you checked all hoses for cracks / leaks?

Unfortunately from what I've read and heard about these cars is that some of the aftermarket code readers cannot show the full extent of what codes are actually stored. You may need to get someone that has a copy of DICE to read the codes to fully understand what is being logged.
