Re: Control arm - Is there a safe way to force it?

Here is the outcome of the project, Success! I did make use of the tip to "catch" the hub using a screwdriver to jam in there. It was resisting me a lot and I never would have gotten it done without that trick. I had to use all the force I could muster. I did ultimately pinch the fins on the boot in...

Re: Control arm - Is there a safe way to force it?

So I can make the strut wobble over to the other side, the CV boot is literally in the way of it though. Here is a picture of the situation from a different angle, I'll be giving it a go tonight, and if I fail I'll consider removing the link or try something else or god forbid buy some kind of new t...

Re: Control arm - Is there a safe way to force it?

Mr Brian, thanks. Might give that a go. Oragex, I think my issue is merely that in your video the end link is clearly detached, the distance he needs to push down on the arm seems to be very minimal, the strut seems fairly well in position where it needs to be to get the hub to align. But in my case...

Re: Control arm - Is there a safe way to force it?

Oragex, the end link is currently detached, but I'm talking about the sway bar link that runs vertically behind the strut. It attaches to the strut a few inches up from the hub. There never seemed to be a need to remove it as I'm not replacing it. None of the instructions seemed to require it so I l...

Re: Control arm - Is there a safe way to force it?

One of the issues I've had is that I didn't detach the sway bar/ roll bar, I guess it's forcing the springs down ward and I can't get the strut high enough? If I remove that will I get some play in the strut? I am worried the suspension and the sway bar are in tension and going to snap up on me.

Re: Control arm - Is there a safe way to force it?

Yeah, I did already remove the strut bolts previously, even though I had read it could affect the camber angle. ( I don't understand how) In any case, the new control arm seems real stiff and I think it might not be as easy as in the video for me, never the less, I did see a tip there that might get...

Control arm - Is there a safe way to force it?

Hello again, it's me the novice guy who ripped the CV boot. https://www.matthewsvolvosite.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=89612 The question: How do I force the control arm back onto the steering assembly? I lack skill, tools, and strength. UPDATE on the boot. The car parts place didn't even have a b...

Re: Lower control arm and CV boot, should I bother?

Here is me both happy that I got the control arm off, and a bit sad because I tore the boot up.

Flip the wheel stops, no need to replace :)

Hello again! I finally borrowed a car to get this done. I have successfully removed the left axle and inspected the boots, thanks to the tip I found on the site for using a wood chisel to pop the axle out of the transmission. Thanks MVS! (No tranny fluid did come out, thankfully). The inner boot is ...

Re: Thud when pressing accelerator

Nice family shot. I had my kids take a video of my mounts while pedal braking for me. I was able to see that my mount does not move nearly as much as yours did. I checked the lower torque rod too, and it seemed to be holding up even though close inspection appears to show some pretty cracked out rub...
