Re: New Member New to Volvo
Temp fix, if you aren’t in crazy dusty areas Jam a half gallon polyethylene milk jug into the engine compartment. Run a hose from the dipstick tube into the milk jug. Drill a hole into the oil filler cap, screw Inc a fitting And run another hose into the jug. Keep that pressure down in the engine b...

Re: New Member New to Volvo
To everyone who posted: Huge thanks. Really. So I’m trying to be lazy. I’ve owned this car for 3000 miles so far and paid to replace the vvti gaskets and the gas tank gasket. I should have done it myself, but on top of my job I run a landscaping business that I can’t keep up with and I’m building a ...

Re: New Member New to Volvo
EGR glove test Note. The EGR system can get clogged, then blow seals resulting in engine oil leaks. This is due to excess pressure in the engine. A rubber glove over the oil filler hole should not inflate when the engine runs. If it does then the EGR service should be done urgently. In the meantime,...

Re: New Member New to Volvo
Oil leak You have probably already done this, but change the oil. You mention you smelt burning and saw a very low level. 1. If the oil did 'cook', it can have lost some of its lubrication and you want that replaced before excessive engine wear occurs. 2. If you added 5w-20, then that is not the ri...

Re: New Member New to Volvo
I forgot to add- the resonator on the car was changed to a long glass pack and the weld looks like exhaust leaks and spiny raccoon scat. I’m going to have the shop remove the factory y pipe and 2” oval exhaust for 2.5” straight to a y tip. No muffler.
This is probably a few weeks out.

Re: New Member New to Volvo
The car is put back together and the vvt is working noticeably better without the huge leaks. This might be all in my head but my butt dyno says it’s healthy. I need to get beneath it to spray all the old remaining oil that’s on it off to check for more leaks. I need to get this u see control before...

Re: New Member New to Volvo
I guess I’ll find out if the leaks stop tomorrow and change the oil. The color of the oil is still newish. I know the oil cap says castrol on it. Is Castrol the best choice for a car with 175k? I think the other seals are good but I’ll find out once the lock rings are removed. There’s no splash guard.

Re: New Member New to Volvo
My wife’s been driving my truck because her car smells like gas. I decided to start looking into the gas and oil leaks. I sprayed a few ounces of simple green all over the motor and turbo while the car was cold to clean all the oil off to find leaks easy. I found the vvt solenoid leaking all over. I...
