Re: Air pump will not run 1996 850

Chances your check valve and air pump are bad from too much mosture in the pump. Happens from check valve not closing and allowing moisture from the exhaust to gather in the pump and rusting it. First check the motor by hot wiring as suggested by fcp. Just installed a check valve today from those fo...

Re: Options to fix a rear main seal leak

Great picture! I did one in the more conventional way but do not know if I would do another. Any way, still no leaks 3 years out.
Replaced all seals in the transmission also.

If your car overheated you most likely have a broken thermostat. The thermostat is designed to purposely break (one leg) in order to pass more coolant. Bet if you replace it your gauge will return to its previous setting. Also may want to do it before winter as the engine will take forever to heat up.

Try turning the key on to position 2 or where it would be running. Do not start. Click the overdrive button on the gear shift. You should hear a click if all is hooked up right. No click, check relay, fuse and wiring to the solonoid. Try this first.

Hard to tell what they did. There are wires under the car, but if disabled??

Check your fluid level too.

Bill has stated your areas to check. I emphasize the battery cables. In my experience corrosion builds up internally and with heat the resistance is so high the juice can't flow to the starter. Your car is old and things go south, especially anything electrical.

If this is a 4 cyl single OHC engine you have solid lifters. The double OHC engine and V 6 have hydraulic lifters. If it is the 4 SOHC the clicking may be from the little hushers being worn out. These can be replaced quite easily without taking the head off.

Look at the FAQ for RWD on brickboard.com Being the owner of a 91 940 SE I have experienced such problems. It tends to all be related to vacuum problems. Check your vacuum valves at the intake manifuld. There are two sources there and a leak can mess up all the happenings. Also, there is a valve und...
