Re: 96 850r head unit woes

I forgot to add the biggest problem! The way the previous owner set up this head unit was causing it to draw power even with the car completely off! Back in 2019-2020 I went through two batteries and an alternator because of this drain. Back then I didn’t understand electrical systems to the level I...

96 850r head unit woes

I bought this car back in August of 2019. The previous owner installed an aftermarket head unit. It sounded great, but I’ve always hated how they look, especially this particular Sony one contrasted with an 850 interior. When I first got the car, the sunroof didn’t work and after a while of trying t...

Re: 1988 245 slid into a guardrail on an icy road at about 15-20 mph

That’s what I was expecting. I was expecting to see bending in the control arm and/or the mounting points but I noticed no bending. The wheel wasn’t damaged either

1988 245 slid into a guardrail on an icy road at about 15-20 mph

I’m going to apologize in advance in case I leave out any important information please ask questions if necessary. Last winter, I slid my wagon into a guard rail. I was gassing it gently up a hill, and as I reached the crest, the rear end swung out to the right, but I delayed in counter steering as ...

Re: Battery/alternator charge issues

In response to jimmy, sorry it took me reading your post at least 5 times before I understood what you were saying lol. If I understood correctly, most of my warning lights should be off if the thin wire at the back of the alternator disconnected right? If they remain on with the wire disconnected, ...

Is it ON while engine is running?
All warning lights are on w the key in on position, and with engine running. Only lights that turn off once the engine is started/running are the oil pressure and transmission arrow lights.

misha wrote: 21 Aug 2020, 02:35 Thin wire is a signal wire for warning lamp and it's "awakening" for the alt.
Without it or if it's shorted somewhere...alt will not have an output.
is there a way I can test the thin wire to see if it’s shorted? I know that the alternator does not have any output.

Re: Battery/alternator charge issues

You can try just replacing the voltage regulator but I would take the whole thing to an auto electric shop and have it evaluated and rebuilt I was under the assumption that rebuilding these guys is a no go?? Is my assumption incorrect?? Also, I’ve been doing a lot of reading, and is the b+ cable th...
