Out of curiosity how many engines have you pulled at this point in total? It seems like you do it pretty frequently Oh man... a lot. I do it a lot more frequently than I realize. I think I've pulled somewhere around 14-15. At least 12 on this particular hoist... always on the 1/4 ton position :wink...

If you end up needing to replace the rear calipers, it was pretty easy when i did it. I i got some remanufactured ones off rock auto for maybe $40 plus core. I think it's just two 13mm bolts holding them on then bleeding the brakes after, thats assuming the brake line nipple isn't seized too bad.

Re: What did you do to your Volvo today?

So I got the trailing arm in and dropped the car off Jack stands and the wheels sticking out wide a bit. I pulled it off a 00 c70 convertible. I checked volvoparts webstore and the trailing arm is the same part for both, but some other forums I've seen that c70 is a wider track. Any advice before I ...

MAN that thing was rusty... probably the rustiest P80 I've ever seen! It had a small hole through the floor just behind a driver seat mounting bolt. No air pump relay no air pump - 99 s70 NA - Topic is solved

Hi everyone, I was checking my fuses and relays and I was wondering if it's normal for a 99 to not have an air pump or an air pump relay? Are they a turbo only product? Yeah are you planning on doing it yourself? If you've done the struts you should be able to tackle the control arm no problem. The right CV axle is much easier to replace than the left IMO. Evap issues won't affect the throttle body, but a MAF problem will. Every time my MAF has gone out (which has happened more than I'd like) it throws an ETS light. Yeah definitely do the stage zero checklist that xheart linked and while you're swapping the spark plugs you should check the compression on your cylinders. You can rent a tester from national parts stores for free, and it'll help you know if the engine is in good shape before you swap a bunch of st...

HowACarWorks.com - great primer I wish I had

Hi Friends, Today I stumbled on to a site called howacarworks.com - which honestly should've been the first thing i googled when I bought a 20 year old volvo with the intention of teaching myself how to fix a car - nevertheless it seems to me like a great general resource to pair with the more model...

Re: Fixing rocker panel rust - 99 s70

Found some new rust by the cat, under some insulation. Super crusty, right where some weld happened, looks like where the firewall and the body meet. Anyway this is making me reconsider my plan, because I'm not sure how to fix this correctly. Or if can be because of the weld. Thinking about swapping...

The Indy also noted a missing inner clip of the outer CV boot, on the right side CV axle. He said it's possible that that has dried up and is causing the noise.

Groan/catching sound while turning - mechanic says rubbing strut springs

Hi friends, The problem I'm experiencing with my 99 s70 m56 is a catching sound when turning the steering wheel with the car in motion. Its a catching/rubbing sound (kinda like clunk clunk clunk) while turning the car at 75% rotation or greater. I've noticed that the sound only happens while the clu...

I gave my S70 a good wash and cleaned out the interior. The dude next to me in the wash box was spraying degreaser on the engine(bay) of his Toyota Yaris. I noticed the engine was hot because the degreaser evaporated immediatly. I asked him: 'Are you going to powerwash that engine?' He gave me no a...

At that price, it's worth a look. The P1s are pretty good cars overall. They have their issues like any other car, but as far as the engine and transmission, they're pretty solid, especially the 2.4i. The path of least resistance in my mind is to grab a replacement compressor from a pick-n-pull. Hooking the lines back up will help to keep the crap out of them. If it was just the clutch bearing that seized up and the compressor didn't grenade internally then it is really easy to pull a good vacuu...

Update: tore apart my old compressor and it was the pulley bearing that went bad, the internals of the compressor were clean.

The best plan of action would've been for me to replace the compressor with a used unit and recharge it.
