Re: Many Problems with a newly bought 01 Volvo XC 70, 82K mi
Most of the problems you have with your XC70 are common to this model, so it's not out of the norm. The previous owner didn't have his car properly maintained otherwise many of these problems would have been addressed. It's always a good idea to have the vehicle checked out before you buy it! The ra...

It sounds like a mount problem. The hydraulic mounts sag as they get old, and cause the transmission to contact the rubber stop on the subframe. If you have someone start the car and put in D, then look under the trans. close to where the A-arm is bolted to the subframe and you can see if the trans....

It's not uncommon for all of these to need replacement, even at 60k. I've had to replace all of these items on many cars while they were still under warranty. I've never tried replacing the a-arm, but it's doubtful that it's any cheaper than replacing the bushings. I've never tried after market end ...

I have heard body panels popping from bad spot welds or cracks and I can see how cold weather can make the metal contract more than usual and make the noise occur. These can be pretty difficult to isolate and repair. Ideally you want to be able to recreate the noise so you can take it to a shop, or ...

When it happens, wiggle the key in the ignition switch and see if the lights come on. The electrical portion of the ignition switch will cause this. Also, there is generally a relay that switches off power to most accessories when cranking the engine, so that you have full power to the starter. It c...

Check out this pic http://www.usedvolvopartsonly.com/images/subframe.jpg If there were a clock in the middle of the subframe, the bumper stop in at 9:30. There is no need to replace the stop, unless its missing. What it does is it prevents the engine/transmission from hitting the metal subframe when...

BTW Thanks for the spelling lesson because it's so helpful towards the problems i'm having with my car. Wouldn't you say that it's UNNECESSARY! Make sure you check the RF motor mount, near the RF wheel area. They collapse and cause all kinds of vibration. Also, there is a bump stop under the transm...
