I checked the wires and they seem to be fine from what I can tell. I even took the pin out again to see if the lights would come on, but nothing. When I turn the key it is literally dead. I was going to try replacing the battery, but I just don't know what the wires would look like if they were not ...

would they be a specific color? or what would they be attached to? The Pin that was knocked loose, I placed back in the center of a plastic arrow looking peice that lined up with the P and N. It was attached to the actual shaft of the gear selector. So where would they be in relation to these pieces.

Ok, I tried the reverse lights and they did not work. The engine does not start in nuetral or park. I have not pulled the gear cover. Should I check the switch and control pin as u stated in the previous post or is it something else since it will not start in either position?

The car has 217,000 miles. When you turn the key it's as if you are trying to start the car in nuetral.
