Thanks, that's a huge help! And isn't everything a bit (or more) trickier on the AWD's?!?!

Thanks again for your help!

1998 V70 AWD Coolant Leak - Which hose is this?

Got in to drive my car this afternoon only to find that there was no coolant in her (light on dash, empty tank). Dumped in about a half gallon of coolant mix only to hear it hitting the ground as fast as I dumped. Leaking from lower/backside of engine compartment. Car up on stands now and I can see ...

Re: New fuel pump + very loud whine = Bad pump?

No, not a cheap pump. $480-ish and I saw the Bosch label before they put it in.

Those pumps are MUCH larger than I would have guessed.

New fuel pump + very loud whine = Bad pump?

Currently on vacation in Phoenix. Drove my '98 V70 AWD from WI and the fuel pump died 2 days after arriving (better here than on the road I guess). Had a very reputable local garage (specializes in high end foreign cars inc Volvo) put in the new pump. They proposed the cut an access panel method, wh...

Re: Fixed - Good battery. Dash lights up. No starter turnove

No, not for the first 6 to 8 tries (over about 10 minutes) at least. Eventually I did wear the battery down with my repeated attempts to start the car but initially it appeared fully charged and functioning normally.

Re: Fixed - Good battery. Dash lights up. No starter turnove

Yes, agreed on all fronts. My gut tells me that the battery isn't the core issue, just a symptom. I think there is an underlying cause which I haven't found yet.

Thanks for the suggestions.

Re: Good battery. Dash lights up. No starter turnover

Fixed. For lack of anything else to do while waiting for a tow, I tried jumping it. Started right up. Battery is 5 1/2 years old so, despite the fact that it seemed to be fine, I guess it lacked the CCA to actually engage the starter motor.

Cheers all!

Fixed - Good battery. Dash lights up. No starter turnover

Just came out from grocery shopping. Loaded the car, turn the key, no starter. Dash lights up just fine. Gauges all active. No starting motor engaging when key is turned though. Battery cables appear fine as do those to the coil and distributor. I'm at a loss. Any suggestions before I call for a tow?

Re: Difference between 458 & 460 ECU in '98 models?

As an update to my original question, it does appear that a 458 EU can be swapped for the 460 version in a '98 V70 AWD. Full story: I bought the GIAC chipped ECU (which was a BOSCH 458 out of a '98 GLT), dropped it in for the spec BOSCH 460 in my '98 V70 AWD, and zoom, zoom, zoom, off I went. Took s...

Excellent, thanks for the details and real world experience. If I get the 458 and try it I'll post a follow up here.
