Re: 97 850 T5 Temperature gauge works intermittently

Thanks for all the replies. I am thinking, maybe erroneously, that the connector for the coolant temperature sensor itself is fine. My reasoning is that the car runs fine even if the coolant temperature gauge reads below the scale. i.e. I am thinking that the sensor sends the correct resistance amou...

Hello Mecheng, Thks for the reply. Which connector are you referring to? The one(s) on the back of the cluster? Or one in the engine compartment? I applied contact cleaner to the ones on the back of the instrument cluster. If it is one(s) in the engine compartment, can you advise the location of the...

Excellent! So if one jumpers the relay/pump in the relay 'box., the pump will run continuously if the key is in the Position II and won't just run for the one second used to prime the system. Thus one could limp along on the jumper???? Or if the jumper were 'in place' would the pump run even if the ...

Running for a very short period of time with the serpentine belt 'off' won't do any harm. You might get an error message because the alternator will not be producing any power/voltage and the car will likely sense and warn about this.

Or do you go for even higher/thicker grade such as 3 or higher?

One thing is that VADIS refers to applying a 3-4mm wide bead of metal adhesive around the outer sections of the spline on the axle before inserting the axle into the new bearing. The metal adhesive is Volvo part#116137-0. I ...

I didn't see a reply as to whether the passenger side or the driver's side is supposed to have the longer 'S' arm? I had to use my son's 94 850 in the rain yesterday and saw that his driver's side wiper missed the left side of the windshield strip more that 6" wide. I then noticed that the 'S' arm o...

It is possible you have a broken filament in the head light bulb. After you start driving it might make contact just from vibration and when it does it can expand enough to maintain a good circuit. Do you have someone who can give you a 'boost' with jumper cables using their car? If it turns over with their battery connected then that would indicate that your battery has died or just depleted itself. Save you buying a charger if it is not necessary. 'New' batteries can fail prematurely.

According to this link, you are on the right track: http://www.permoveo.ltd.uk/tabid/122/OBD-Error-Code/P0452/Diagnostics/Volvo/Default.aspx I removed the rear seat once, the only real nasty/difficult part is releasing the two clips (one on each side/end of seat). Re: New Not so proud owner of a 99 s80

If you had/have oil coming out of your did stick 'pipe' then I suspect you have a plugged PCV system. There is a little bolt, fitting and piping/hoses under the intake manifold which can become plugged. Do you feel suction at the dipstick hole when the engine is running? If not, that is your problem...

I don't see anything in the maintenance schedule regarding replacement of the distributor cap, and I assume rotor and what about plug wires?

How do you define bad gas?
When you change out the filter, do you try blowing thru the filter to see if it is plugged? i.e. with your mouth but careful not to ingest any gas... I imagine compressed air would have to much pressure i.e. would overcome any 'plugging' so would not be 'fair' test?

I trust that you don't have fog lights which might be turned on? If you do, and they are turned 'on', then the high beams won't come on if I recall correctly.

I have to say that http://www.autopartsway.ca/ was quite accommodating because I initially ordered the rear hub assembly because I was concentrating on the name SKF and didn't see that the SKF is only available for the rear. Here is a file from VADIS with the info you require re the siren.
But perhaps you should get your DTC's read to confirm if it is indeed the siren module?
Note it has instructions for other sensors also. You need to scroll down a bit to the part regarding the siren.

Key won't turn in ignition

99 S80 T6 about 130,000 miles: Wife calls me from parking lot at about 10:00 pm tonight. She can't turn the key in the ignition. Correct me if I am mistaken but if it was a problem with the immobilizer ring/antenna, then one should still be able to turn the key right? If that is so, then is it safe ...

Did the dealer clear all the codes and then these were the codes that still showed up? Or did they just read and print out the codes and give the read out to you?

Re: 1999 S80 2.9L cutting out at 2000 RPM

If it only happens at 2000 rpm, seems logical it is the ETM i.e. 2000 rpm is approx where my car cruises at highway speed i.e.approx. 60 to 65 mph and thus I suspect the ETM slider to pot surface would get the most wear at that 'spot'. Can you/she get past the 2000 rpm 'spot'? i.e. do the rpms smoot...

Could it still possibly be the battery? i.e. possibly shorting inside after getting warmed up? Not sure if that is even possible or correct description. If you order a replacement remote from these guys:

Please note that it will likely be a USED unit. I ordered one at a price of $94.99 and was expecting to receive a NEW unit considering that one can find used remotes for less on ebay. Just a heads up.

If the dealer doesn't agree to give you the records, due to 'privacy concerns', see if you can get a letter from the previous owner authorizing them to release that information to you. We did that for our son's 850 and the dealer was then happy to give the info.
